will our car tow our ponies???? help please?
hi, we have a 10Hh shetland pony of average weight and a 12.1Hh stocky welsh section A (both full grown)
we have a 2l citroen picasso HDI with towbar and have seen a horse box for sale in our local area,
heres a little bit about it (not sure if it helps or not)
RICE trailer to take two horses or ponies
Removable Partition
Rubber flooring
Side Ramp – Rubber Matted
Rear ramp – Rubber Matted
4 Good Tyres
Grooms Door
Skylight
So i was wondering how do we work out how much the ponies and horsebox weigh to see if our car is even capable of towing it or does anyone know of someone already using this vehicle for this purpose??
any help or tips would be much appreciated as we would love to take our ponies and children out at the weekend ![]()
thank you in advance
just found out the dimensions of the horse box –
Internal dimentions are approx. Wide 165cm – Lengh 320cm – high 205cm. It has a ball hitch.
Only vehicles equipped with a tow package should be used to haul horses. Otherwise not only are you significantly increasing your risk of a wreck but you are also tearing up the vehicle. If you do not care enough about your pony’s safety to use a proper tow vehicle consider the fact that you will be spending alot of money replacing your tires, transmission, engine, rear end and brakes when towing above your vehicle’s capacity. Also consider if you have to brake hard the trailer can push a small vehicle, causing you to jacknife and wreck. Car brakes just aren’t suitable for stopping the weight of a loaded horse trailer.
