My vet has diagnosed my horse with an ulcer in her foot help!?
The ulcer is at the tip of her frog, and is about the size of a baked bean, it is white with a hole in the middle. i have searched the web and cannot find anything remotely similar
does anyone have any experience of this?
vet has perscribed a different antibiotic group to the one we had been using he said its a stab in the dark, i have used this vet for many years and do trust him i just wondered if anyone had experienced this before, if this doesn;t work she has to have a minor operation to take it out! there will be quite alot of post-op pain and stable rest poor girl
its definately not an absess or thrush as have had experience with both before (different horses)
I have heard of canker ulcers on the frog of a horses hoof. Your description sounds about the same. Believe it or not, they came up with a maggot therapy a few years ago, I think there is also a treatment with sugardine. (It’s been some time since I read whatever article this was) It was quite successful, I believe. I’m not sure if it’s still around (though if successful, it probably is), you could probably find something on Google.
