Why is wearing mixed fabric a sin?

19Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.
Seriously, what’s the point of these rules? And since every sin is equal, do you really think those who wear mixed fabric or breed an Angus cattle with a Texas Longhorn go to hell like the murderers and infidels?
And why can’t we have a diverse garden?! I have one, it’s awesome. I’d get tired of only beets.
