Instructor said tall riding boots will end up being too short?
I just bought a pair of tall riding boots for $199. The sales lady said that they looked fine so I thought they would be. I was worried they’d end up being too wide but my riding instructor said they might end up being too short but lets wait and see how they look in the saddle. So I wore them for one lesson and she said they will be fine for schooling but wouldn’t pay over $100 for them (I actually paid $99 for them and someone else paid the $100 for me). They come up about a half inch over they bottom of my kneecap now. I called the tack store where I got them and they said they can exchange them for a $20 fee since I already wore them. I would also have to drive an hour and a half to get to the tack store. Question is do you think it’s worth it to exchange them or should I just keep them?
And I’m only 5′4 and the back of the boot does hit the bend in my knee….if that helps
Honestly, I would just keep ahold of them. If they are fitting you well, who cares? There isn’t a huge difference if the boot is just a little bit short. If you’re really concerned, take a picture of them on from the side and post it.
Just so you know, all new boots have a small break in where the footing settles and you lose about 1/2 inch – 1 inch worth of heigth in the sides, so when you try on boots you should always make sure they go just slightly above your knee. They typically curve so the outter part is higher than the inner, the outer part should come to about the middle of your knee or so. You need to be able to almost completely bend your kneein boots, and if they are just tall enough they almost restrict, that’s proper.
The boots sound like they are properly fitting now, though they may drop soon, when they are worn in. They won’t loose too much, though.
However — 200 is quite a lot and if you’re looking for just ONE boot to wear to both schooling and competition, or you need to use the money for competition boots, I would exchange them and have your trainer help you pick some out, so she can get something she deems acceptable.

Depends on how much you trust your trainer, really… They sound a fine size, but they may drop a bit. Good luck!
