western saddle fitting?
i just got my 4 year old arab/qh a western saddle. wasnt exactly sure of what to look for so i got semi qh bars, the saddle is synthetic. i currently ride her in a synthetic, medium tree, english saddle. she has medium withers. she’s not real muscular, but not exactly slender either. im trying the saddle on tomarrow and i can return it for a new size if it doesnt fit. i was examining it when i got home and noticed right under the seat, the saddle rests right on the spine. should it do that? my horse has a sensitive spine, soo sensitive i cant ride her bareback, would the saddle bother her? i did get a semi thick western blanket too. i dont have the time or the materials to do the custom fitting expeiraments. if it doesnt fit, ill take it back. any advice?
Any saddle, western, English or side saddle should never touch the horse anywhere on the spine. You say you do not have the time to check for proper fitting, well, you will have to or your horse will get sore and angry very quickly! Surely 15 minutes in sitting trot is not too much time to let the saddle settle in to the position it would sit on that horse! You are just so lazy it is incredible. I feel sorry for the horse if you do not do this experiment. A poorly fitting saddle can do untold damage to the horse and his or her temperament.
