Small Scale Cattle Farming

About me being a vegetarian?

well Ive been a veggie for almost a year now. The main reason im a veggie is because im strongly against factory farming and big farming industries and nowadays you have no idea where the meat has actually come from. I know we have labled meat products in Britain telling us what area of britain the meat has come from and in scotland most of out meat is labled scottish beef, lamb etc.. but we don’t actually know how the animal was treated before it went to slaughter or in the slaughter house.
I believe there is nothing wrong with killing other animals for meat to eat but its the whole big scale factory farming thingy that’s turned me off meat !
I like small farms like the one near me where i can see free roaming cattle etc and i would probably eat meat if i knew where my meat exactly came from.

What do you think of my reason for being a veggie because usually when people ask me why i take a long time to actually explain it.
:]

I understand your reasons but, I have more faith in the British farmer. I make the national distinction very clear here.

I have seen too many Peta videos with practices that have been banned in Britain for decades. Animal welfare is a key issue in Britain and we take it very seriously. Farms are inspected regularly and those not up to standards are closed down and the farmers prosecuted.

When it comes to knowing where your meat comes from; A butcher they will tell you where the meat comes from. Ontop of this there are further restrictions. For example, cows are tagged with identification from the farm that they were born on and their movements (i.e. farm to farm or farm to abitoir) is all tracked by Defra via the animals passport. Therefore all meat within the EU is traceable.

When it comes to knowing how they’re treated, the minimum standards are set in law and enforced by Defra.

If you ever fancy giving meat another go and don’t live near a butcher, always look for the red tractor logo and the British flag.

Red tractor logo = of British standards.
British flag = from Britain.
