What is safe to feed a mouflon sheep?
I have a 1 day old, newborn, mouflon sheep. It is smaller then the other one born. It really needs to regain its strength and the mother wont touch it. PLEASE HELP!!! I just need to know what is safe to feed it and how much. Thanks.
Go and get a good replacement milk product at your feed store. In the mean time you can try to milk out your ewe if she will let you, it helps to have two people one to hold and one to milk. Did she get any colostrum from the mother? It is a little late for colostrum but better late then never, try to milk some out from mom or any other milking sheep you have. They will drink about 2 to 4 oz at a time, you can feed her every 4-6 hours at 2 oz for the first few days to regain her strength. Be very careful not to overfeed her, they will scour and that is another difficulty you don’t want in a week sheep. Sometimes I will hold the mother and let the lamb eat several times a day, and eventually they get over not liking it. If the mother is hostile do not leave them together, if she just ignores and moves away when the lamb tries to nurse, you may get her to eventually take it when it smells like her milk.
