What do you look for in a good pack horse?
My boyfriend and I enjoy camping with the horses at our favorite fishing holes. Over the next few years, we would like to do more than just on the weekends.
How hard is it to train a trail broke saddle horse to carry a pack saddle? Does the 20% weight guideline apply here too?

KB, I agree, I would eventually like to get a mule, maybe a few years down the road though. I got my budget to deal with, you know.
I love going camping & packing out!!!!! I have never had a hard time teaching a trail horse to pack. I have found that if they are saddle broke then they have had no problems with the pack equipment on. My husband & I each will have one pack horse each. We use the the tree line to tie our horses. I found it to be easier than hobbles. Most of mine hobble, but I like the line much better! I stick to a weight limit, so my horses can go as far as we like, with no problems. Then the horses to not wear out as easy. We have also rotated horses that we rode. One reason we each have a pack horse. Hope this helps soom!! Email if you like.
