Reining Horse Stallions

Thickening up Stallion?

I have a 5 y/o Paint stallion with a lot of reining/halter bloodlines. He was a little underweight when I got him but is better now. My question is how do I go about “thickening him up” to provide that stocky halter horse look?
He actually is a great show horse. Does terrific in halter, wp, trail, and speed events (which is probably why he’s not as stocky). Unfortunatly although he looks great and acts great under english in my area you don’t stand a chance of placing if you’re on a paint, the judges won’t even look. I just really like that “thick” look and was wondering if there was a way to get it. Can’t geld due to already sold breedings for next season. Plus no reason to, he’s great with road riding, can have kids on him, is extremely gentle in nature and can be tied beside/or pony mares without a single “studly” act.

I have a paint stallion that was 10 years old last year and hadn’t been shown in years and we decided to condition him back up for halter-(he beat out younger horses and looked great) he haltered as a yearling thru 3 year old, with alot of championships. When we don’t condition him he drops alot of muscle and size, when we do he is massive stands 15.3 and weighs 1500+ pounds. Here’s what we did-he was long trotted for 30 minutes a day 6 days a week preferably in sand, he is actually worked by trotting next to a golf cart which is how we do all our halter horses then they don’t get the stress on their legs from going in circles in a round pen every day (our halter horses aren’t broke to ride). We feed soaked beet pulp (when dry we put 2-1pound coffee cans in a bucket of water) after it’s soaked we add 1/4 cup vegetable oil, also 1 pound mare n foal (to all of the halter horses has alot of extras in it for the body building), 1 pound oats. Then they are feed 2 flakes of hay twice a day, some get an extra flake at lunch time.

To get the muscle you need to do the trotting to get the size and bulk you need to do the feed. We have another stud by Quorum APHA who was a world champion and if you look at him when he was being shown he was mostly ridden and light framed then when they haltered him to get his halter points he was massive but I am sure it took alot of exercising and feed to get him that way and he wasn’t being shown in riding classes at that time.
