Miniature Cattle or Sheep ?
what is the pro and con for raising miniature cattle and sheep ?
The big plus is that they require less acreage, you can produce a larger number of these on the same amount of land as conventional cattle.
Another plus is the obvious that … they are smaller, so many find them less intimidating, and require less massive handling facilities.
With miniature cattle I would recommend getting involved in registered cattle and market them either by private treaty (off the farm) or through sales geared toward these type of cattle.
I would strongly caution against showing up at the local sale barn with these cattle as the people there typically don’t have any use for them and they won’t bring much in this type of situation.
With sheep that problem goes away to some extent although you will do better if you sell them at sales geared more to your product.
The other main con is predators, since these animals are much smaller than most other livestock they become easier prey so I would suggest getting a Dog or Llama to stay with the herd/flock.
Good luck and hope this helped
