Why do people submit lousy photos of their animals when listing them in rescue, for sale, etc?
I was looking through page after page of Quarter horses for sale, and picture after picture was either blurred, too dark to make out detail, distorted angle with the head looking way too big, etc. It is easy to set up a good picture. Why do they bother to submit a poor one to a website or publication? I’ve had people ask me what breed their dog is, and I can’t tell because he’s sitting at their feet and they’re taking the picture looking down at his face; you can’t see any of the rest of him! Wouldn’t you want to present your animal looking his best?
It’s really depressing, isn’t it?
I think it’s too hard for them to go out, give the horse a bath, a nice grooming, and have their feet trimmed up nicely because their $200 poorly bred mare whose been bred back to her brother isn’t going to sell. They think that a random picture of their butt up in the air and their head in the round bale counts for a sale picture.
You forgot to mention the obligatory child not wearing a helmet, sitting bareback on a 2 year old stallion, wearing flip flops and no one is holding the horse. That allows the seller to say “Great kids horse” because they don’t have to show the after shot of the kid falling square onto their heads because said 2 year old got excited by the flash.
Also, another pointer is to not have any pictures of people riding said “broke” horse because that would just be too obvious. Instead, just take a picture of them tied to a trailer with a bit on and a frantic look in their eye.
I saw this ad on Craigslist once describing a decent horse not too far from where I live. There were no pictures because “it’s too cold to go outside and try and chase him down for a picture.” So many things wrong with that line it made me hurt a little.
