Is the picture that usually comes to mind when thinking about Tennessee accurate?
I’ve wanted to live in Tennessee my whole life (specifically Franklin- suburb of Nashville). When I think of Tennessee, I picture beautiful scenery everywhere: mountains, rivers, lots of plants and green-ery, grass everywhere, and farm-like animals surrounding you almost everywhere. I picture almost all houses to be farms on acres of land with cows mooing and horses eating when you look outside. Big red barns with chicken, the fresh air smelling like pecan pie and barbecue, etc. I think you get the picture. But in a place like Franklin, is this picture/idea actually realistic? Thanks
Uh, no. You have an idealistic view of Tennessee. If you take bits and pieces from throughout the state and paste them together, you get your view.
There are mountains in the east, but not in Middle or West Tennessee. There are hills around Franklin, no mountains. There are farms throughout the state, no big red barns. The chickens are mainly in chicken houses and are raised for Tyson. Most of the chickens you will see (except in the grocery) will be in cages on big trucks headed for the processing plants. Can’t remember seeing any farm animals near Franklin. Maybe some horses, but I don’t remember any.
You do smell barbeque sometimes when driving past restaurants. The only pecan pie you’ll smell is if you make it yourself. Franklin is a small city that is almost a suburb of Nashville. It has subdivisions, shopping centers, parking lots, and traffic jams just like other cities. Old downtown Franklin is pretty, but very touristy.
Hate to burst your bubble.

Animal Farm [VHS] $9.49 After the technical achievement of Babe, it was inevitable that “talking animal” effects would be applied to the serious themes of George Orwell’s Animal Farm. A bitterly satirical indictment of Stalinist Russia and the failure of Communism, Orwell’s 1945 novel is a time-honored classic, so it’s only fitting that this TNT production remains largely faithful to Orwell’s potent narrative.
