How many pet mice should I get?
My friend is giving me pet mice (all females, little white common mice) that he can not care for anymore because he’s going off to college. They’re only a few months old (born in September) and he has twelve.
He’s also giving some to his cousins, but I have first pick on how many I want.
I had an Egyptian mouse when I was 7, but I didn’t really take care of it, but I’ve been reading up on mouse care online and have all the supplies (food, bedding, toys, wheel, etc) and a roomy 20 gallon tank so even though I’m no expert, I will take serious care for them.
My question is, how many should I get?
I wanted to get two at first, but now I’m considering getting three or four because I’ve heard (not sure if it’s true) that they like to be in groups.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! 
Mice are more social than other small animals (like hamsters) but that doesn’t mean that they won’t necessarily fight if you have too many. They could fight over food or space, or just because they don’t like each other. Remember animals have different personalities just like people. Since you have a larger tank (20 gal right?) You should be able to get 4 or 5 just fine with no problems. ^_^ I had 4 female mice in a 20 gallon and they got along just fine. Also remember that since they are still young there is a chance that they might fight as they get older. Hope that helps!
