Pet Duvets

I’ve had my cat for a month now and she still pees everywhere!?

When we bought indy the pet shop owner tol dus she was trained on woodbased litter. once i took her home she keep running away from it! even tho it was the exact same litter in the shop!

a month on now and she still refuses the box and well prefers to wee on my duvet or bed! If she does use the box it is only if its newpapers (which is a pain) or she only pees in the box but poos on the carpet.

I’ve tried putting her in the tray after meal or when i spot her about to go. I’ve tried the litter box sprays and giving her treats when she does use it (one in a blue moon). I’ve even tried squirting a little bit of water on her when she gets ready to go on my duvet. Also tried putting her poo in the tray as well for her to understand. She just still rather pee on my duvets and poo on the carpet!

I’m clueless and running out of duvets!!

I had this exact problem with my cat, although it only started happening when we brought a puppy into the house. The behaviors are similar, though. Several things to try:

1. Change the type of litter you are using. Cats are known to have an aversion to a litter after time, even though they’ve used it for a while.

After 9 years it actually happened with my cat. I went to a pet store and found a litter that claimed to get cats back to using the litter box so I figured I’d try it and to my surprise, it worked. It’s called “Cat Attract” and is soft and scoopable. I figured my cat wanted a softer surface to pee on so I guess that helped.

So the cat used his box again but still kept peeing in this one corner of my living room floor, driving me absolutely crazy. I found out that once their scent is on something they’ll keep going back to that spot and urinating on it, which would probably explain why she’s continuing to pee on your bed.

I did some research online because they sprays at the pet store to remove urine weren’t working and I was getting more and more angry at the cat. I found a product called “Urine Off” so I went to the nearest vet that carried it and bought a bottle and that works like a charm. Here’s the link so you can read about it. It’s the only thing that got the urine crystals out of my hardwood floors and stopped my kitty from peeing there.

2. Your cat could have a urinary tract infection. Many owners don’t realize this is happening and typically the cat won’t use the litter tray because she associates the tray (and urination) with pain and will choose another, softer spot. I’d suggest taking your cat to the vet as soon as possible. I remember how bad I felt going to the vet…I was scolding my kitty for possibly just being sick. (Turns out he wasn’t sick, he was just mad about the puppy being there but you could have a sick kitty and should start medication soon, if that’s the issue.)

3. Your cat is trying to adjust to a new environment and could be stressed out. I would shut your bedroom door so your cat has no access to your bed or duvet whatsoever. After feeding her, put her in the bathroom with her litter tray (with the new, softer litter in it). Leave her a toy or something to keep her occupied. Let her acclimate to the small space and keep her in there when you are not at home. We had to do this with my kitty for a month but it worked. He missed getting to sleep on my bed and have the run of the house so he knew if he started peeing in the living room again he’d go back to staying in the bathroom.

As frustrating as this can get (believe me, I got so mad I thought my head would explode), don’t forget your kitty is just an animal that has been transported to a new environment with new people and looks to you for love and care. Be patient and try several things. It will work out! By the way, I had to use the Cat Attract for about 2 months but now can use any soft litter. I don’t have to use the Urine Off anymore, thank goodness.

Good luck
