I am getting into Pat Parelli’s training methods can someone help me out with something?
I’m reading a book by parelli at the moment but I would like to know about the different levels!! I have the feeling you have to log your hours with your horse to know how far you are progressing. is this right? Is there something else I need to know about the levels or this training in general.

You will need the DVD’s or you can find the old VHS tapes with pocket guides. The levels are very specific and you need to accomplish the tasks in the lower levels because they prepare you and your horse for the upper levels. There is no need to log hours, especially if you are just doing this for yourself and your horse to improve your horsemanship and advancing your riding. Basically, the methods are about safety (level one) and communication with your horse by developing respect and language. Your horse already knows most of this information, but you have to learn it and learn how to communicate the information to your horse so that you both understand the requests and can respond calmly and with trust. The book you are reading is very general in information, and you need the specifics. Take your time and be patient. Dependent upon your horse, your progress could be relatively quick or very lengthy and time consuming. Horses are individuals and while they all learn quickly, you want to make sure you don’t teach the wrong lesson. Developing your timing will be a great measure of your success. Good for you and your horse. Ignore the negative junk and don’t get discouraged. Best of luck to you.
