Are kosher and halal meat raised under specific standards?
I am trying to eat foods that are minimally processed and clean. While I do not eat meat, my family does and I would like to ensure that they are eating the highest quality and and most humanely treated meats. I live in a neighborhood with large Arabic and Jewish communities and would like to determine if their meat is on level with organic. Thanks!
I would go to the various places and ask directly about where they are getting their animals and bring out your concerns. The reason I say this is while Kosher for example is supposed to mean humanely raised and killed animals it doesn’t always mean that. Factory farming is starting to creep into these communities. Go on you tube look for Kosher butcher/meat you will see some videos that are appalling. It’s been about six months since I watched them hopefully they are still up.
In my area the Arabic groceries get their meat from small local farms. So the conditions while living might be better. Overall my point is that even though there are supposed to be certain standards not everyone abides by them just like many other things when you are vegetarian the best way to find out is to ask straight out in a conversational way where does your meat come from and other important questions. Whole foods claims to have humanely treated free range animals that become their meat.
