Buying a New Forest Pony at the sales?
HI-
I do have a friend who has bought several New Forest ponies from the sale and as soon as i contact her i’ll ask her advise too. I’m experienced working with horses and can train (i’m an assistant horse trainer atm).
I would like to buy a 3 or 4 year old from the New Forest possibly next year to train and sell on is there anything i should be aware of?
The man i help train horses said it would need passporting for starters he’s happy to help me if needs be?
But can anyone give me any advise? Has anyone done this before? know people who have but never done it myself.
Thanks
the big new forest studs run their herds on the forest and you do get good quaity foals come up for sale there, but they are generally more expensive.
As has already been said, you get weanlings and yearlings, but not generally the 4 year olds you speak of.
Make sure your clued up on conformation and new forest lines- get to know the names of the best studs and some of the nicer forest run stallions so if you want a quality foal then you know which sires to look out for!
good luck!
