Horse Supplements and Treats?
I’m doing a school project and I have a few questions about horse supplements that I would greatly appreciate if you answered within the next few days.
1. I know supplemental over dosage can lead to health problems, but what kind of health problems?
2. What is the reason for having a powder, liquid, and pellet form for supplements?
3.Why add artificial flavors to horse treats?
4.What is the benefit of an all natural horse treat? What are the negatives?

I have to agree with aceyduce. Supplements aren’t necessary in horses and I never use them either. Many of them are harmful to the animal. High doses of things they don’t get in nature (and if nature gave it, they wouldn’t need it) can cause digestive problems in horses prone to colic. It’s the same with changing the type of grass you feed. A daily apple or carrot is fine, not sure about the rinds, I’ve never tried them. So..answer 1 would be, mostly gastrointestinal problems. 2, Marketing pure and simple. 3, I have no idea, horses usually eat things they like and maybe they want eat it without the flavoring. 4, Remember, marijuana and cocaine are natural so that doesn’t mean good for you or your horse. Other than a salt/mineral lick, occasional piece of fruit or vegetable, I wouldn’t give anything to my horses. Mine are field horses and they eat hay pretty much exclusively. They are “easy keepers” and I’ve had no vet calls in over eight years. Some will disagree, but field horses keep better than stable ones as a rule, they get plenty of exercise and don’t get as bored and act out as much.
