I have some questions about a hypothetical ranch?
I need to design a livestock producing ranch for my livestock production class. I have a few questions.
1) This is very very VERY broad, but aobout how many cows should I have per square acre (for a ranch that is 1×2 miles)
2) Are 3 squeeze chutes/scales sufficient for this?
3) 4 feed troughs and 4 water troughs?
4) 1 well?

1. Depends on the forage quality/quantity and terrain on your ranch.
2. One chute is probably enough.
3. Depends on how many different pastures/paddocks you are dividing up your ranch up into and how often you plan on feeding the animals. Perhaps a better measure is bunk space per head rather than simply number of troughs.
4. Depends on how many gallons per minute your well pumps and how far you need/want to pump your water.
Other things to think about, is your ranch going to be a cow/calf operation, are you feeding stocker calves or something else?
