Do you think Americans give farmers enough credit for what they do for us?
I f all the farmers in the USA stopped production of livestock, poultry, grain and produce for one year where do you think we would get our food?
No, people dont have a clue what the average farmer does.
I was raised on a farm. My father raises beef cattle and buys and sells all over America. He works sometimes 20hrs a day! And it has been that way every since I remember. He works harder than any man I know! He is on call 24 hours a day! Most Americans work 9-5, but my father doesnt stop till bed time! He takes so much pride in what he does… he makes sure his cattle are grain fed and well taken care of. He has to constantly moniter them and deal with buyers and sellers… He wouldnt put any beef out there on the market that he wouldnt want his own kids to eat! Ive been eating it for 30yrs now! But the average person has no idea what a farmers day is like! Believe me, its stressful and non-stop! Remember that the next time you buy American beef, dairy, vegetables and other farm products! A farmers job is never done!
And to those who say farmers get so many billions in subsidies…You make it sound like farmers are making SO much…I have to question that. Like I said my father works 20hours a day! Everyday of the week! I dont know too many people out there that can handle that type of lifestyle…just to provide a living. When you calculate all of THAT time, no he does NOT get paid what he’s worth! He is not driving a fancy BMW or living in a 400K home…He is very humble with what he makes. He has to turn around and use most of his profits back into his business…to purchase equiptment and feed and vet bills and more cattle. I dont SEE where the billions are going…the individual farmers are not seeing even millions like you say. Believe me, I know first hand…its a very risky business too… Im not saying pitty the farmer, my father has done well for himself and his family…but its not like what you are saying. He has done well BUT it didnt come easy! What job requires you to work 20 hours a day, 7 days a week!? Precious time away from family. Sometimes auctions go on 24 hours and he is right there through it all….He doesnt zip on a plane to go out west for business, he drives there and back from the east…Its not a luxurious lifestyle that some of you are protraying it to be nowadays. I have friends in many high paying professions and none of them have the kind of stress stories my father has mentioned to me. He works hard and SHOULD be appreciated more….he is helping feed America!
