What’s a good sheet for shows that a horse won’t get sweaty under?
I’m from Colorado, and our summers get pretty hot (90 plus midday). The problem is, I have a light grey horse that I’ll be showing a bunch this summer. I used to have a bay, so staining wasn’t as much of a problem. I’m worried that with a grey, I’ll come out the morning of the show with green and brown stains all over her. I have a fleece show sheet and a light 1200D turnout blanket (no fill but still warm). If I put the light blanket on her, she gets sweaty, and I think the same will probably happen for fleece. I also have a mesh Kensington sheet that helps with keeping her clean, but the stains still get through.
Also- she wears a sleazy hood on nights before shows to keep braids intact.
So… My question is, what is a good sheet that will keep my grey horse very clean, but still cool in the summer? I really don’t want her to sweat under a sheet, that’s almost worse than her not being clean.
I don’t know any specific rugs in your country, but maybe you could look for a turnout rug with no filling whatsoever. I believe it’s called a summer sheet.
You could also spray mud repellent over her neck, face, legs etc. before putting the sheet on.
If she does get dirty, rub at the stains with a cactus cloth or sponge the stains with very warm (not hot) water.
