Am I a beginner or intermediate at horseback riding?
I learned to ride 4 years ago, though I haven’t been on a horse much since mine died 2 years ago. I can ride once a week or so now, I know someone close-by that has a horse they want ridden.
I haven’t had any formal lessons, because I can’t afford them at the moment (I’d like to take lessons in a few years).
I have ridden about 9 different horses.
I have ridden at the walk, trot, and canter.
I can stay on a rearing horse.
I have fallen off of a bucking horse, but I’ve only ridden a bucking horse once.
I have ridden a horse while it jumped a ditch.
I often rode a very stubborn horse.
I mostly ride bareback.
The horse I ride now tries to go back to the barn a lot (she has a friend in the field), but I can get her to listen to me.
I owned a horse for 2 years.
I would also like to know what I can do to improve my riding.
you sound like a beginner to me – I am a beginner, too, and all of these apply to me as well! Except i jump often (3 times a week), and deal with a bucking pony at least once a week without falliing. And since you have not ridden in 2 years, or ever had lessons, it will definatly slow down the advancing process. To improve riding, I cant answer that without seeing you ride… I dont know your riding disapline, either, so I cant give any tips for that exept for keep your eyes up, heels down, and light contact with the mouth.
