what are all the basic supplies that you have to have for a horse, and how much does each thing cost?

Off the top of my head..
Farrier
trim, every 6-8 weeks $40+
shoes, every 6-8 weeks $100+
Vet
vaccinations $100+
check ups $50+
injuries (depends, can be over $1000)
Grooming kit – $50-100
Covers
summer cover, 100$+
winter cover, $200+ (usually over $300 for a decent one)
under cover, (if your horse is cold or trimmed) $50-100
Feed
grass/paddock, could be $20-100 a week if you own no land
hard feed, not sure on this one since i don’t use it
hay, around $5-7 a medium/small sized bale
Tack
halter, $10-20
bridle, $100+
saddle, $400-2000+
saddle pad, $50
If you want to board at a stable, that can range from $100 to $500+ a month, in winter you will have to feed extra whether it be hay or hard feed. If you have an older horse you’ll have to feed extra anyway. One year, all my family’s paddocks were flooded and we had no grass whatsoever and at one stage just to keep one horse at a healthy weight i went through one bale a day, and after a while the costs just keep adding up. If you want lessons, well there’s another $50 odd a week. Lunge lines can be bought for $20-50, and lunging sets are $100 on special.
This is just off the top of my head, and i’ve probably missed quite a bit.
All these prices are probably raising your eyebrows, but it’s not really that bad. Once you get the initial things out of the way, like tack and covers, you’re pretty much okay. If the horse doesn’t need shoes the you’ll save a bit there. Feed is quite easy. My horses graze 24/7 and i only feed out about 1 or 2 slabs of hay a day, depending on the weather and if they’re in work. That makes 1 to 2 bales of hay a week (around $10-15) That’s all i feed.
At first i spent well over $200 a week on supplies like covers, tack etc but now since i have all that it’s roughly costing me less than $50 a week per horse.
