Horse Race Medicine

Questions about the race track industry program.?

I’m 16 and i have spent my whole life on the track at Prairie Meadows. I started walking hots when i was about 10 years old and ive been a groom since i was 13. I know a lot about horse racing and im going to graduate December of this year. I’m going to attend the race track industry program in Arizona and take Thoroughbred and Quarter horse racing along with Racing Medicine, but i was also thinking about more of the racing officials/management part of the racing business. But i have a few questions first.

What are some of the racing management or racing official jobs? And what sort of things do they deal with?

What jobs on the backside of the racing/track management or racing officials part of it pays the most? (besides trainers, owners, and jockeys.)

And which one would have the most place for advancement in the future and would end up being the most rewarding?

Any answers would help me out a ton in helping me decide what im going to do. Thanks

Every track needs a racing inspector who makes sure that horses aren’t running on illegal medications and things like that. Ultimately, every job at a racetrack is going to pay poorly unless you’re a great jockey or trainer with great horses..

My advice is to go to school first, then decide the answer to this question in a few years. A lot of people who go into the racetrack industry program change their minds about what they initially wanted to do… a lot of them wanted to be trainers and they decide on a more stable job like racing secretary. There’s no big hurry to make up your mind. Take some classes and see what you like before you commit to something.
