Horse Market Analysis

Anyone know where to get current horse marketing / business info?

I’m going to start working on a marketing plan for school. I wanna do it on a horse stable but I need to get a “broad” or “geographic regional” idea of the marketing situation: competitors, market analysis and trends. I’m focusing on an english type stable but western stuff will be helpful too.

Being in Advertising / Marketing in the horse industry, I have alot of horse industry statistics that might be helpful to you. Here are a few: The majority of horses are in the eastern part of the country (there are even more horses in the eastern parts of Texas and Oklahoma than the western parts!). The last census information on total horse population in the US is 4,028,827 (horses and ponies).

Typical English rider = 87.5% are female, 53.6% are age 31 – 50, 43.8% are hunter/jumper.
Typical Western rider = 57.5% are female, 68.3% are age 31 – 50, 19.9% are show riders.
There are over twice as many Western riders than English riders.

Average horses owned 3 – 4, average number of horses at boarding facilities 10 – 20. An average of 68.05% keep their horses on their own property. 26.71% of people own 5 – 19 acres nad 19.78% own 20 – 99 acres and 8.93% own 100 acres or more (which leaves the balance owning under 5 acres and possibly boarding their horses due to lack of space). These figures are for the continental US.

Most people, when looking to build a barn, focus on functionality and safety. When choosing a builder they look for quality of materials and processes as well as final cost of the facility.

Typically, horse owners purchase their equine products at a variety of outlets: 77% from a feed store, 49% from a tack shop, 24% from a catalog and the balance is between pet superstore, online, auctions and local stables.

Hope that answers you question.

Written deliberately to increase the circulation of Dickens’s weekly magazine, Household Words, Hard Times was a huge and instantaneous success upon publication in 1854. Yet this novel is not the cheerful celebration of Victorian life one might have expected from the beloved author of The Pickwick Papers and The Old Curiosity Shop. Compressed, stark, allegorical, it is a bitter exposé of c…
