Feeding wheat to horses?
According to www.horsetalk.co.nz (I’m not in New Zealand, but never mind) wheat can be a useful energy feed if fed carefully. It is higher in energy than corn (weight basis) and feeding more than 20% of it finely ground can lead to colic, so it should always be fed coarsely ground or cracked.
Does anyone have anything to add to this regarding feeding wheat to horses?
You know my knowledge of horses, Middy – there’s the pointed bit and there’s the blunt bit – and that’s about it.
However, my ‘girlfriend’ at the time was a real expert – like, you wanna see her get hold of a frisky stallion – she made it behave like a Blackpool donkey.
Anyways, I remember she told me that feeding this kind of stuff can make the most placid nag ultra hyper – but then I never tried it myself – I prefer them to be calm and handleable – just like my women <*wink>
