What bit should I use for my barrel horse?
I have a nice comfortable quarter horse that I am going to use in barrel racing but I don’t know what kind of bit to use. Im a intermediate rider and hes a intermediate to calm horse. Please help! thanks
Honestly, I would go to a barrel race, find someone that rides like you do or like you want to and strike up a conversation with them. It is way to hard to talk bits on here. A gag bit is NOT something you run a horse in, it is used to train in! Most barrel races will help someone that wants help!! Does he know barrels at all?? Are you going to be training him?? These are answers that are needed to really determine what you need. If you are green and he is green then please for both of you find someone to help you or it won’t be much fun. When I started I didn’t know anyone and I didn’t ask any questions, I just watched and copied. Later I got brave and started talking to the girls, man did they open up and I am so glad they did!!!
EDIT: let me correct myself, the gag bit I was thinking of is not what is being talked about above me. My apologies, my fingers got ahead of my brain. You can use a bit that has some gag to it! Wonder Bits are great, Sharron Camarillo bits are great!
