Halter Breaking a Calf…Please Help?
Ok so I’m showing a pure breed Black Brangus she is 6 months old..this is my 1st heifer.I caught in the cakf scramble so I know how to put a halter on and crank the tail but those calfs were like 3 months old or something.I show lambs so I am filimar with animals. I am picking her up this weekend and I need to know how to halter break her and stuff…she has been around humans but not that much. So please help me I will take any tips.
She is a Registered Black Brangus. I am going to bred her…she is NOT going into commerical sale. I caught in the scramble so I havet to right a monthly report and stuff.
Should I bring a halter with me when I pick her up?
Get a halter on her and tie the halter near her food when you feed her. Then stand there when she eats and see if you can scratch her and get her used to your presence. It is a long process, and if she is really jumpy around people, she may not ever get completely used to it. Good luck!
I would take a halter to pick her up, but don’t be surprised if you can’t get it on. If you do, great! Again, the easiest time to get the halter on is when she is eating.
