Crib biting in horses?
Hi, i was wondering if anyone had a horse that cribs? i am doing a uni project on trying to reduce cribbing, if anyone has a horse that cribs and doesnt mind helping me, (i am planning on doing an observation – and then giving a feed supplement that i will supply by feedmark, then doing the same observation to see if any improvement) i would really appreciate it. (the observation could be done by owner, then results forwarded onto me
)
many thanks for reading.
Cribbing can be caused by boredom, emotional distress, or an inadequate diet and also taught by other horses bad habits. Horses are also known to self worm themselves by chewing wood off of trees etc if not wormed regularly… So don’t you think you should find out why the horse is doing it first before giving it a bunch of supplements? It could be diet, parasites, boredom, living environment, social life (a neighbor he/she can’t see touch), the horse might just need more mental challenges stable toys etc. Observation and checking out horse environment and nutrition is the first thing id look at before giving a feed supplement. The only way i would give a cribbing supplement is IF my horse was lacking some sort of nutrition and ruled out every possible reason for cribbing.
