Is horse flu next, based on this evidence?
Frederick, MD (AHN) – U.S. Army officials say they cannot account for three vials of a potentially dangerous virus that was stored at a a lab at Fort Detrick.
The vials contained samples of Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis. It is a virus that sickens horses, but it can be spread to humans by mosquitoes. It causes flu-like symptoms in humans in 97 percent of cases but it can be deadly in about 1 percent of the cases.
There hasn’t been an outbreak since 1971 and there is an effective vaccine.
