Are airlines strict when it comes to the length of dog carriers? what if its a little longer than the requirments? It meets the height and width requirments.
It is not a matter of being strict, but to make sure that you and your pet dog is comfortable on the trip. To make that possible, certain requirements must be adhered to. When you book your flight, you must inform the air carrier that you are flying with a dog in the cabin. The reason for this is that there is a limit to the number of animals an air carrier can take in one flight in a certain compartment, even though the dog/cat will be in the cabin. For example, on Boeing 737-800/B767ER/B777/MD11 aircraft, some airlines can take only a maximum of 4 pet kennels in the cabin for Coach class, and 2 on First Class/Business Class. The maximum dimensions of the kennel are usually 17inches in Length X 12inches in Width X 8 inches in Height (in centimeters, that is 43L X 30W X 20H). Also there are seats where one cannot stow the kennel underneath, so it’s more important to divulge a few details when booking a flight.
Basically, you will have to show to the check in agent that your dog fits comfortably in the hand-carry kennel, and that it can stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably. This vary depending on the breed size. But the idea is to show that the four-legged beloved creature is not in distress.
