i need help finding a saddle to fit me AND my horse! (very specific)?
im 13, and im 5′9 maybe 5′10. and still growing… my horse is a stocky 3 year old paint horse and hes still growing. im looking for a close contact english saddle that i can show in with APHA. i show HUS with my horse and eventually hope to start jumping him once hes mature enough. i HATE wintec and i want something that actually looks nice. i need a 17 in- 17.5 inch seat, and a long flap. and probably a wide tree ( and knee rolls 
). ive tried a pessoa long flap wide tree close contact saddle and it cut into my horse right below the withers and was too wide below that. ive tried an ovation QH saddle and it fit him almost perfectly… but it was wayyy to short for me in the flap and was ugly.. i need something on the cheaper side since we are both still growing. $1300 or less. if anyone has any ideas at all that would be help ful!
Are you riding with a trainer? If so, that’s the first thing I would try – they can give you lots of advice in how a saddle fits you. I think it would be useful to sit in a bunch of different English saddles with a trainer, and get them to show you which ones fit you the best, and why. See where your legs should fall. See how much room you have in various seats. If you can try someone else’s saddle, then when you find one that works well for you, you can start shopping for one yourself.
As for how it fits on your horse, that can be tricker. Hopefully a trainer can assist with this, too, but if you have doubts try an equine chiropractor or a professional saddle fitter (On the downside, most pros sell saddles therefore have a bias towards their own models)
I suspect you won’t find it that difficult to buy an English saddle with a fairly wide tree. There are many AQHA, APHA, Morgans and ponies out there with wide backs.
I also own a good book on fitting English saddles, it has tons of advice on saddle fit and how to tell. The book is called “The Horse’s Paint-Free Back and Saddle-Fit Book” by Joyce Harman. You may want to buy the book if you’re shopping on your own, it has tons of advice to help both you and your horse find a saddle that works.
