Am I too immature to own a horse?
Ok..so, I have been riding for about a year now, And do some barrel racing and pole bending. I grew up around horses, But I have never owned one. My parents have been talking about getting me my own horse in November for my birthday, But am I too immature to own my own? I know tons about horses, but I don’t want to risk any horses safety, Or mine for that matter. I know the complete tack, Feeding, And grooming deal..But again, I wouldn’t want to get my own, and not be able to care for it correctly of it because I don’t know enough to care for it.
Your not immature, but like you said you have to know that owing a horse requires a tremendous amount of attention and care. If you are not able to tend the needs of the horse then it would be carelessness, but you can research and see what sort of care if needed before owning a horse. You can also try to visit a horse stable for a day with the permission of your parents and spend the day there and get a feel for how a horse is cared for. After your research and physical experience then decide and see if your ready and willing to take up the responsibilities which come with owning a horse and if you’re ready then get one and if not get it when your ready.
