In 1960s America did they use horses for cattle & have cars?
I’m writing a story set in 1960s America but I know nothing about the time period!
Did they still use horses to herd cattle back then?
Did they have cars?
What was the general culture like?
ps. It’s set in North California.
Yes, they still used horses to herd cattle. They still do today. They had cars with stone tires. Ha. Just kidding. Most didn’t have a/c yet but it was starting to come around and was very popular. No FM radio in the car yet, only one speaker, just lap belts and most were made with steel and had powerful engines that ran on cheap gas that was going for about 17 to 28 cents a gallon. The gas station pumped the gas, washed the windows, checked under the hood and aired your tires. If you filled up your tank they usually gave you something, like a map, or free glasses or some promotional item. Milk was about 52 cents a gallon at the 7/11 store and you really could get penny candy that tasted good. Alot of us actually walked to school every day , played in the parks every summer and ran through the neighborhoods together skating and having massive snow ball battles. I am describing life on the east coast but I lived in New Mexico too at that time frame. It was the same everywhere in the USA. Conformity was also part of the scene at the time. TV was in black and white and there were only three channels. It came on about six in the morning.
