cattle experts: does feeding soybean meal to feeder cattle have the same value of corn?
im pretty sure it doesnt. corn is much better. if i sub corn for beanmeal will my feeder cattle gain as fast. my ration consists of: soybean meal mixed with pellets and roughage. (hay, corn stalks, etc) or should i just feed them good old corn?
Well it depends, soybean has high protein but fairly low energy. The protein is highly digestible, but the palatability is low.
Corn on the other hand, is lower in protein but has a high energy value, it’s also highly palatable.
For an ideal diet you need to balance the to, to arrive at a high protein, high energy and palatable diet.
