Cattle Dogs For Sale

Is there a law prohibiting…?

…the sale of traditionally non-food, non-endangered animals as food, as long as they are properly labeled as such?

For example, we’ve all heard the negative stereotype about Asian-inspired restaurants serving cats. But is there a law that says they couldn’t if they wanted to, or only a law against false labeling of foods?
Similarly, could a butcher sell parakeet kebabs in his shop?

Marketplaces in other countries are full of various foodstuffs that we would never dream of eating here in North America. Do our animal protection laws prohibit the slaughter and sale of traditionally non-food animals that might be found for sale in other parts of the world?

(Answers pertaining to laws in any English-speaking country are welcome.)

Additional Details
Regarding animal protection laws, what differentiates cattle and chickens from cats and dogs?

FIRST…. Most domestic animals and their off spring are filled with chemicals. You would probably need to import “clean” strains in order to obtain an edible stock.

SECOND ….. The purpose of any business is to make a profit. I seriously doubt “serving cats” in America would be commercially profitable. More than 87% of pet owners are cat lovers and would not look forward to eating their favorite pet…..and would be extremely angry at any of their friends who did eat cat. Your problems with animal rights protesters would cost you a fortune…..and frighten away the few customers you might attract

THIRD…. Restaurants must survive a battery of inspections from many agencies…..from Fire Departments to Health Inspectors….. most of them would be pet owners and not inclined to give you any slack….. it would be almost impossible even to get open.

FINALLY For many years the American public ate horse meat….. low cholesterol….low fat….The practice fell by the wayside as America changed over the years…..a few year ago a large herd of wild…..chemically free… horses became a problem and the government deciding in their usual wisdom to sell them as human food….. the chit storm was humongous…. finally the government had to sell them to dog food manufacturers

There are countries that eat a wide variety of things including spiders, scorpions and locust …..
but you wont find them on sale in America…. because there is no “market”
Dogs, cats are not specifically against the law to sell as a food item…. but it would be almost impossible to make a viable business out of it in America…..
