What is a healthy colour for horse poo.We bought a new horse yesterday and her manure is a yellow green.?
I know that it could be the food that she was eating prior to us buying her, but she is a little on the skinnyside. The owner told us the reason she is skinny is that they ran out of feed, just hoping its not more serious. Its not like you can take a vet to every horse dealer. Hope someone can shed some light on the subject,
That sounds ominous – the bit about running out of food. If that was the truth – which I somehow doubt, why is the person keeping horses in the first place? What did the other horses look like? I would have a quiet word with the RSPCA – they will investigate but your name will not be divulged. You owe it to your new horse and any other animals still at the place. I would get the vet to have a look and possibly take a sample for testing. The thinness could be lack of food, worms, an underlying illness or other condition. Is the poo loose or very hard?
The colours can vary depending a) on what the horse has been eating previously, b) a bit of an upset tummy or trauma – maybe just from the fact that she has moved homes. But I would seriously consider getting the vet to check that all is well and follow his advice.
Good luck.
