What do i feed my chickens?
I would like to have organic chicken eggs. I am going to build a coop for nighttime and let them roam the yard during they day. Do i need to buy organic feed or is there a better (cheaper) way?
If you want the eggs to be truly organic you will need to buy organic feed. I learned the hard way that it isn’t worth the trouble. I started buying organic feed so I could sell organic eggs. The only organic feed I could find is made by Blue Seal. Its about twice as expensive as regular feed. Just as my hens were laying enough eggs to sell the surplus my feed store couldn’t get the organic feed. The reason was the feed mill couldn’t get organic grain so they had to stop making organic feed until they could get a new supply. Now I feed Shur-Gain natural feeds to all my livestock. It doesn’t have any medications or growth hormones. The only difference is they don’t guarantee the grain to be organically grown.
