Which 12% Buckeye Feed are you on?
My young ones always go through a couple of “ugly duckling” phases but once they come out of it, they are totally different horses! I attribute these phases to something similar to puberty in the horse. Between growth spurts and other changes, sometimes they need a little extra push, nutritionally, to get them through.
Gro N Win would be a good option for a 2-year-old in decent weight condition. It is highly fortified with vitamins, minerals, and high quality amino acids which will help Chase through the rest of his growth spurts. Gro N Win is low calorie though, so if he is in good weight condition right now and he is getting around 2% of his body weight in good forage, everything will balance out nicely for him.
(RideNSlide is right…GroNWin is just all around high quality stuff)
If later on you decide he needs added calories, or even a “spit shine”, Ultimate Finish is their fat supplement that is low in starch and sugar and can help add calories to the diet and shine to his coat.
I think Buckeye Nutrition’s Growth feeds are formulated for weanlings up to 3 year olds if you wanted to go that route, but we use the Gro N Win.
Some other helpful hints are to measure out your feed to make sure he is getting the right amount for his age/work. And make sure he is getting enough forage (2% of his bodyweight in pasture or hay).
Also, try to go with a fixed formula feed. This is very important, especially for the young or old ages, because of the digestibility of the ingredients used.
Good luck!
