Blue Seal Horse Feed

equine hay stretcher?

what type of horse should be fed hay stretcher? i have not ahd much experience with it… but i have a 3 1/2 yr QH who gets much too excited when fed blue seal trotter and we were thinking maybe we could just make her think she was getting grain by giving her some hay stretcher at breakfast a dinner instead of grain and then still feed her hay on the side (but a bit less) . would this be okay? or would it not be such a good idea (and why?) and are there any other methods to making her not so excited? I can’t even walk her around in her paddock without having her take off, heels in the air. and if this idea would work, then how much should i give her?

Some of her energy sounds like a groundwork/respect issue or also a young horse being silly issue..but..
You could also try to feed your horse a lower sugar/starch feed than the Trotter. BS Carb Guard or Triple Crown Lite or TC low Starch. Hay stretcher ( Blue Seal)is still somewhat high in sugar/starch (22% last time I tested it a few years back) is a larger pellet and she probably would think it is grain, but if you are just going to feed her a handful so she is happy getting something in her tub, I wouldnt back off on her regular hay. They need the long stem roughage/fiber of regular hay for proper digestion plus to combat boredom and also to make heat to keep warm in the winter. Also unless you test your hay and know it is high quality and pretty balanced mineral wise, she might need some supplementation from actual feed as she is still a growing horse. Blue Seal nutritionist will help you with this for free if you are using their products.Ask your feed mill to contact them for you.The Nurtitionist and their area Rep came to my farm and also stayed in contact w/me through email when I needed help.
