fitting australian saddles?
How do most australian outback saddles fit? i saw a used one for sale that was at a pretty reasonable price and i was wondering if it’d be worth looking at. I have a paint horse that has a medium to thin front with smaller withers. I emailed them to find out more about the fit but i ‘ve been told that aussies usually don’t fit american horse breeds very well.
It’s by australian saddle co. but i can’t tell which one it is from the picture but it actually looks more like a real aussie compared to the most of the saddles pictured on their site. The closest one it looks like is the surviver poley. Also i would be interested in hearing any of your opinions on australian stock saddle co.
Can’t think of who told you Aussie saddles don’t fit American breeds??? There’s plenty of Quarter horses, appaloosas, paints etc over here!!! Used for pleasure, show, western. mustering, rodeo, ponyclub. campdrafting and just about anything else you can think of.
You’ll fit an australian stock saddle on a stocky, rounded QH to a tall rangey appy no worries. There’s a few different styles and names according to the maker. (stock poley, drafter, barcoo, bates kimberly – just to name a few). Syd Hill and Sons is one of the best. If you’ve never ridden in one the style may be a little different to what you’re used to – deep in the seat, legs slightly forward. Extremely comfortable and suited to long hours in the saddle.
