how can i stop my australian cattle dog from growling at my sister’s puppy (husky)?
Everytime he growls the puppy gets excited and wants to play so my dog growls louder. I think my dog is trying to protect his “people.” Or maybe It’s because the puppy is in his territory and doesn’t respect him. Anyways i just want ways to try to stop the growling. I’ve yelled and told him no but are there more ways?
Are you sure it is aggressive/dominant growling? My dogs make noise when they play which sounds a lot like growling.
If it is aggressive/dominant, then it sounds like both dogs need some correction. The puppy doesn’t really know any better and doesn’t understand that your dog is giving him a warning. Your dog should stop the behavior as soon as you tell him to.
I wouldn’t yell, as you are probably just making the situation more excitable. I would try doing activities with the two of them together. How old is the puppy? Does he have all of his shots? If so, you can take him on walks with your dog. This will wear the puppy out so he isn’t so excitable and give your dog something else to focus on. If he isn’t old enough, you can try and wear the puppy out a bit yourself and hen bring the two dogs in the same room together, you playing with your dog on one side and your sister playing with the puppy on the other. Wait until all of the tension and excitement is gone from both dogs and then try allowing your dog to sniff about while keeping the puppy close to your sister.
Is your dog aggressive around other dogs or just the puppy? You might try a more neutral territory as well. If it is just the puppy then part of it is that the puppy needs to learn doggy socialization 101. 
As soon as he is old enough, he can be enrolled in a puppy obedience class to gain some social skills. Your dog, if he is aggressive towards more than jus the puppy, you benefit from basic obedience as well. The “leave it” command is one of my favorite things my dogs have been taught and I learned the idea from puppy preschool!

Your dog is trying to teach the puppy manners, most likely. He is annoyed by the excited nature of the pup. He needs to see the pup as something other than annoying.
